about

“Jake Bertrand’s ‘Welcome Home’ is one of my favorite Canadian CD’s right now. It’s well produced, the songwriting is excellent, and there is an earnestness in Jake’s vocal delivery that I find very appealing. Jake is the real deal.”
—Brock Tozer, Music Director, CHRI 99.1FM [Ottawa]

A decade is a long time.
"Welcome Home" marks Jake Bertrand's first album release since 2001, and perhaps tells the story of this artist's lengthy absence. From the moody opening chords of "After All", to the emotionally-charged closer "With The Angels" — a song dedicated to his late Grandfather — one gets the feeling that Bertrand has seen the darker side of life in recent years. In stark contrast to his 2001 debut "I Still Believe", this brand new offering is filled with gritty acoustic rock songs, most of which tackle tough issues and encourage listeners in the midst of difficult times. Rocker "Mistake" tells of Jake's prolonged fight with chronic illness, while "Believing", one of the more gripping tracks on the record, conveys the difficult realities of an abusive relationship. "Love Like Iron" communicates Bertrand's honest expression of faith, while ballad "I Believe" speaks of unrealized dreams, and the hope that they will come true. The guitar-driven "You're The Girl" and a reprise of Jake's previously-released single "Who We Are" help round out this solid collection. The Canadian's big, husky vocals are a highlight throughout, accompanied by the stellar electric guitar work of Tony Lind (One Hundred Days, Hewit), and award-winning producer Andrew Horrocks (Producer of the Year, 2010-2011, 2013 GMA Covenant Awards).
From start to finish, "Welcome Home" is a refreshingly honest invitation to hope in the midst of challenging circumstances. A solid sophomore effort, nominated for "Rock Album of the Year" at the 2011 GMA Covenant Awards.
